Ramayana By various Poets

Kamban the Tamil poet of the 10-12th century wrote a long poem Rama Katha almost faithfully following Valmiki Ramayana. He presented the Tamil Ramayana Kaviyam as one originating in Tamil Nadu and thus with tamil ethos.Kamba Ramayana became a quite popular work and the later writers refer to it often in their writings. But it remain a popular work till 18th century, when Arunachala Kavirayarof Sirkazhi, Tamil Nadu fascinated by this work, decided to take it to the common man, simplifying the language, using local idiom, and setting songs to music.

He created Rama Natakam. This become very popular in villages. Even to this day Carnatic concerts, includes songs of Arunachala Kavirayar. Tulasidoss wrote Ramacharit Manas in the 15th centuary. Another work of Adbutha Ramayana of 4000 verses, was written by Saint Ramananda in the 14th centuary. In this work, Rama is pictured as supreme Deity who has taken an Avatara to punish the wicket and save the virtuous. There are also several other Ramayanas written by great scholars. They are named as Bhusundi Ramayana, Bhoja Champa Ramayana and Poet Kalidasa's Raghuvamsa. In Telugu, Bhaskara, Thyagaraja, Gopinatha Molla and Adhyatma Ramayana are well known. In Oriya also several author's narrated the Ramayana. Here also we are giving you the Short picture of Ramayana.

Ramayana is one of the Great epic of India. It describes in glorious terms the hero’s deeds and virtue of Kshatriya Princes The Ramayana is the story of Rama a prince of King Dasaratha of Ayodhya. By an unfortunate promise, given to Kaikeye the wife of Dasaratha, Dasaratha is compelled to send Rama to the forest for fourteen years. Rama being a devoted son and respecting the honour of his fathers word accepts the order and proceeds to Dandakaranya [Deep forest] With his wife Seetha and brother Lakshmana. There he fights the demons who are destroying the sacrifice and penance of the sages. Ravana , the demon king of Lanka, took away Seetha by deceit. Being informed about this Jatayu, the two brothers proceed to the south. On the way they secure the help of Sugriva and Hanuman. Ultimately they have reached Lanka thro’ the bridge constructed by them and succeeds in killing Ravana and getting back Seetha. They fly back to Ayodhya. Rama ascends the throne which is kept vacant by Bharata –another faithful step brother of Rama. After some time Rama has to abandon Seetha just to please a section of his people. This incident of banishing the devoted and faithful wife against his own will is described in a touching manner in Ramayana. Seetha however for virtue of her purity and extraordinary ability of her two sons Lava and Kucha, wins back her husband’s confidence.

The Ramayana is the story of the triumph of the good over the evil. A Picture of the society of those times was clearly told in Ramayana. The King was the central figure, morals, religion, welfare and everything else depended upon his character and behaviour. Swati Tirunal of Trivancore summarized the Ramayana in a series of verses starting with “Bhavayaami Raghuramam. These verses were popularised by the great carnatic singer Bharatha Rathna Smt. M.S. Lord Rama and Karunanidhi.

Lord Rama and Karunanidhi.

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh participating in the Ramlila watched by UPA Chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Union Minister Kapil Sibal, at Subhash Maidan in New Delhi on Sunday.

Now-a-days Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Karunanidhi is not having good sleep because of Lord Rama and Sethu Bridge constructed by him. During the award function of Tamil Nadu film actors, Karunanidhi told that the “Ramayana” is not a epic and it is only a story about Rama, the King of Ayodhya.

Whether Ramayana was story or Indian epic, it is telling the real picture of Indian culture, and the peoples living conditions in the Vedic period of India. We have to learn a lot of lessons from Ramayana. Ramayana explains the duties of a King to rule his country without any corruption or complaint from the people. The King must make the life of his people cheerful and with satisfaction. It also explains the relationship between the son and father and the sons duty to fulfill his fathers words. The relationship between brothers and their affection between each other and wife’s true love with her husband and the husband’s duty not to abandon his wife and seek other women were also explained in detail in “Ramayana”. The story of Ramayana not only guiding the people with good morals and also explains the culture of the Indian society in Vedic period.

Even though Jesus and Allah are considered as human being, peoples following their path are worshipping them as God. Like that Hindu community people are worshipping Rama as God and following his teachings. All the religions are teaching that a man must have a good behavior, culture and good deed. By his act a man can become as God. Man like Ravana , to seize others wife will be considered only as a demon. These morals were only explained in “Ramayana”. Karunanidhi must read all these messages also from Ramayana.

Rajaji written in his book named “Chakravarthi Thirumagan” that even though Rama was a human being, by his character and deed he was considered as God. In his book Rajaji explained the fame of Rama and his very good characters.
Recently, Congress President Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Manmohan Singh worshipped Lord Rama at “RamLeela” grounds. But it is not known, whether they have prayed Rama to give good sense to their alliance partners. Karunanidhi can only find out, for which alliance partners they have prayed Rama for good sense.

How Ramar-Sethu was constructed..?

How Ramar-Sethu was constructed..?

The present atheist leaders in Tamil Nadu are asking How Rama has constructed the Ramar-Sethu..? Whether he is a engineer..? For those people the Ramayana author, the Great poet Valmiki himself replied in his slokas. He was also having very excellent geography knowledge of South India and has elaborated in his version Ramayana about the Ramar-Sethu Bridge.

To decide where to make the sethu [Bridge], Rama climbed up the Mahendragiri hill, which is the tallest hill [1654 m] ideal to watch the coast, though 60 K.M. away from the sea coast [Kanyakumari]. Rama, Nala, Sugreeva and others realized that the shortest width was near the present Rameswaram. On the commands of Rama. Lakhs of Vanaras has gone to forests. Mighty vanaras broke hill tops, broke trees and brought to seashore [Valmiki Ramayana Slokas 54-55]

Valmiki mentioned 15 types of trees used in the construction on work. Seal, aswakarna, dhar, bhans, kutj, arjun, thal, thilak, thinish, bel and chitran. [Slokas 57] Uprooted some trees and they brought like flag staff, while some broken trees were also brought [Slokas 58]

Valmiki described very correctly the name of all trees that are seen in South India. Mighty vanaras broke hill tops and brought elephant sized boulders to sea shore [Sloka-60] They through stones on the sea, which lifted sea water to the sky and then drowned. [Sloka-62]

While some vanaras throw boulders in orderly way, some others maintained measurements by holding one yojana long thread [Sloka-62] Vanaras engaged themselves busy. Some vanaras employed yardsticks [like engineers] while some others arranging the materials in orderly way. Sethu was simultaneously made at different points. Big trees tied together in making Sethu [sloka-64-65]

Suvel hill was given to end point on the Srilanka side. For accurate measurements, the location of the hill is needed. That is how Nala has made 100 yojanas length and ten yojana width Sethu [Sloka-76] Sethu Built by Nala looked beautiful and impressive like a shadow [Sloka-74]. I request the political leaders to go through the Valmiki Ramayana and ask our engineers, to find out whether the Ramar-Sethu [Bridge] was constructed according to rules and regulations. At present even small bridges were not constructed by the Government itself and several cases are pending against them. Ramar-Sethu was constructed during Vedic period ie. before million years and it is the duty of every Indian to safe guard the Historic monument.

Ramar-Sethu

Ramar-Sethu.

There are several Old Hindu temples in Tamil Nadu constructed by the Great Chera, Chola and pandian Kings. They are the unique feature of the Indian civilization. No Engineer’s constructed those temples. The intention of the temple was for worship, Social, Religious and Cultural activities, such as civic meetings, religious and philosophical discussions, recitation, introduction of new literacy compositions, exhibition of the individual achievements in fine arts like music, dancing, festivals and feasts.

In Chandra Gupta era 320 A.D., Gupta painting is represented by the excellent specimen at Ajanta and other cave. The narrative paintings at Ajanta reveal several contemporary lives and depict charming and delicate scenes of home, palace, life, toilet, sport facilities and processions. So also the iron pillar at Delhi and the eight feet copper image of Buddha reveal their skill in metallurgy.

The earliest ruler of the Pallava dynasty was Simhaverma 586-610. Mahendravarma constructed many rock-cut temples. He has the credit of building the temples of Brahma, Vishnu and Ishvara. Mahendravarma was won back to Shaivism from Jainism by the famous Saint Appar.

Rajaraja Cholan- I [985-1012] was the real founder of the Chola Empire. He Built the Brahadeeswara temple at Thanjavur in his capital. Inscriptions regarding his conquests are also found in this temple. The nandhi in the temple is 12 feet height 19.5 feet long and 18.25 feet width. Now-a-days engineers are wondering how he constructed such a big temple. Several Bridges on rivers and Dam’s were also constructed without any engineers in those days. Kallanai was built by Karikalan the Chola King around the Ist centuary A.D. Their contribution to literature and architecture has immortalized them. Their government, society and literature were considerably influenced by those rest of India. The Tamil Kings earned glory for themselves in their donations to the temples and construction of Public works. The Ramayana was translated by Kamban the Tamil poet.

Now some political party leaders in Tamil Nadu are telling that whether the King of Ayodhya Lord Rama is an engineer in constructing the Ramar- Sethu Bridge between Srilanka and Rameswaram? There is no doubt in the architecture ways of the Bridge and it was constructed by Lord Rama only with the help of the southern part Vanara King’s Sugreevaa, Nala, Hanuman and others. In the Valmiki Ramayanam Sloka 45 it is stated, the sea guard of by name Samudra appeared before Rama and disclosed the name of Nala son of Divine architect Viswakarma, who can make the bridge. Nala also promised Rama that he would make the Sethu on the sea {sloka 48}. He said that he is capable of making it immediately.

Rama made prior planning where to make the bridge on the sea. Rama along with vanara army, with the strength of 1016 crossed many forests, rivers and mountains that came in the way traveling day and night without taking any rest from Kishkinta situated near Bellary Town in Karnataka state upto Mahendragiri [Sloka 69] Mahendra giri, the highest hill in the part of India, close to the sea. Rama climbed the hill and gazed the sea coast [referred in fourth sarga in yudha kanda] ideal to watch the coast and to decide where to make the sethu This insight confirms valmikis excellent geography knowledge of even the hills in South India.

Rama was unshakeable God in the heart of crores of Hindu people in India. Gandhi was alsoi in positive declaration that “Ram Rajya” to be established in India. There are several sacred places in India named Janakpuri, Ayodhya, Rameswaram, and Dhanushkodi which are all having relationship with Lord Rama.

Rama Rajyam.

Rama Rajyam.

Jaya jaya Rajaram..! Jaya jaya Seetha Ram..!!

In India during the vedic period, Hinduism achieved all its characteristics, prayer, worship of God and sacrifies were the chief religious duties. Truth and reality was the goal. Religion was not an abstract idea but an all embracing force influencing all walks of life. Hinduism was very wide and included all sections of society.

The Upanishads are the main philosophical work. They provided material to all different schools of philosophy developed during the later period. The Six important schools of thought-Nyaya, Vaisheshika, Samkhya, Yoga, Mimamsa and Vedanta-can ce traced in this period. Two grand Indian epics are Mahabharata and Ramayana. They have been written in all the languages of the world. They are respected as scared works in India.

The Ramayana was the original work of poet Valmiki and in tamil it was written by poet Kamban. The Ramayana is the story of Rama, aprince of King Dasaratha of Ayodhya. Rama is a brave warrior, faithful son, loving husband and conscientious ruler. He is considered to be the in carnation of God. Lakshmana and Bharata are faithful and affectionate brothers of Rama. Sita is the ideal woman of the Indian womanhood. Devoted to her husband, she willingly accepts all sufferings and privations, patience, suffering, devotion and charity are all personified in her.

The opposite character Ravana King of Lanka is also brave, civilized, powerful but
has no character. King was the central figure, morals, religion, welfare and everything
else depend upon his character and behaviour. He may be supreme, but he must
obey Dharma and respect the views of his people. It was the duty of the king to maintain the social order. Ram Rajyam has come to mean an ideal state with all good morals. Gambling, drinking and hunting were commonly condemned in Ram Rajyam. In Ram Rajyam the people were prosperous and happy. Our present people in India desirous of seeing Ram Rajya but the political leaders are not willing to give an ideal rule and going on their way of all malpractices and refusing even to believe Rama itself. At present state Rama can only save India and its people.
